Recipes to help with teething

There are a number of foods you can give to your baby to help soothe teething pains, and which also double up as tasty treats for all the family. Try out some of our favourite recipes below, and let us know how they helped!
Please note that while teething biscuits can help your baby deal with the pain, they can present a possible choking hazard.

Teething cereal cookies

Teething biscuits are hard and massage the gums, which can help your baby deal with the pain. To help ensure their safety make sure your child is sitting in an upright position when eating and monitor them constantly. Ingredients:
  • 4 tablespoons of shortening
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 3 teaspoons of vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons of water
  • 3 cups of rice baby cereal
How to make them:
  • Preheat your oven to 300 degrees
  • Cream the sugar and shortening
  • Mix the eggs, salt, vanilla, baking powder, salt, vanilla, and mix with water until even
  • Slowly mix in the cereal and then rub the mixture until even
  • Fold it into individual cookies with smooth edges
  • Put it on an ungreased sheet and then bake for 25 minutes

Pear & banana ice lollies

Can we suggest iced/frozen food?? Cold lollies can help soothe the discomfort babies feel from teeth breaking through their gums and may be very useful during this period. Ingredients:
  • 1/4-pint custard
  • 2 bananas (220g)
  • 2 tbsp Pear Concentrate
How to make them
  • Blend the custard with 2 mashed bananas until smooth
  • Stir in the pear concentrate
  • Pour into lolly moulds and freeze until solid

Traffic light popsicles

Try combining colourful fresh fruit to give you a vibrant combination of colours. As well as tasting delicious, these will also look great with the pineapple, kiwi and strawberry combining to make a multi coloured treat your tots will love.

  • 5oz kiwi, peeled
  • 6oz pineapple, peeled
  • 6oz fresh strawberry
How to make them
  • Puree each fruit separately in the blender and keep separate
  • Then, equally fill four small 5 oz cups with the kiwi puree and freeze
  • Add the pineapple puree and freeze for 15 minutes
  • Add strawberry puree and freeze overnight
  • Insert sticks and freeze at least 2 hours

Banana bread teething sticks

  • 1 cup of olive oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 2 cups of crushed bananas
  • 4 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 3 1/2 cups of flour
How to make them:
  • Stir the ingredients in a bowl until even
  • Pour onto a greased pan
  • Oven bake at 350 degrees for an hour
  • Leave to cool, take out of the pan and cut into shapes
  • Put them onto a cookie sheet and bake at 150 degrees for 1 hour or until they’re crunchy
  • Feed to your teething baby

Homemade teething cookies

  • 2 cups of quick oats
  • 2 cups of ground oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 2 cups of crushed bananas
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons of olive oil
How to make them:
  • Mix the ingredients and mould into individual cookies
  • Place onto parchment paper and bake for 15 minutes min at 350 degrees

Peach popsicles

  • 2 chopped fresh peaches
  • 1 cup of natural yoghurt
  • 1 ripe banana
How to make them

Use a blender or food processor to mix together until smooth. Freeze until firm.

Yoghurt lollies

  • 150g fresh raspberries
  • 2 x 125g pots raspberry yogurt
How to make them
  • Use a blender to blend the raspberries until smooth
  • Add the yoghurt and stir in before pouring into your mould to freeze

Watermelon popsicles


Just watermelon!

How to make them
  • Puree fresh watermelon, having removed the skin, in a food processor
  • Pour into the moulds and freeze
